The Rework Challenge

* SMD's come in all shapes and sizes.

* A large inventory of hot air nozzles and

   solder tips is not practical.

* Modern PC boards are heavily

   populated with SMD components.

*  Lead Free Solder is now used in PCB's.

* Traditional methods of SMD Rework

   are no longer acceptable

Are You Guilty of This

SMD COMPONENTS

* Smd Removal has alway been

   a challenge

* Lead-Free PCB's with higher

  reflow temperatures have

  made rework more difficult

 * A safe affordable method is

   needed.

The Chip Quik® 4 Step Solution

Chip Removal                                                    1     Chip Quik® Tack Flux (SMD291)

Apply Tack Flux generously to all pins of the SMD to be removed. A good flux is important because it removes oxidation and enhances wetting. The same flux can be used for solder/desolder/rework

                           2

  Chip Quik® Removal Alloy

Chip RemovalWith a solder iron

melt Chip Quik®

Alloy uniformly on

all pins of the SMD.

Maintain alloy in     molten state long enough to release

 the SMD.

Chip Removal           3

  Lift SMD from PCB

   with Pen-Vac

     or Dental Pick

To reuse the SMD, apply tack flux on all pins.  Then  blow hot air on pins while

cleaning with a soft

brush. This works quite

well.

SMD Removal   4   Clean PCB

With solder iron,

keep excess alloy molten while
running a swab dipped in tack flux along pads.

Polish each pad with swab until

thoroughly clean.

                                                                 Clean residue with

                                                                  alcohol.
